'Tis The Season ...(Now What?)
For everything there is a season.
This particular season is trickier than most. Let’s face it, at this time of year, people’s thoughts frequently turn to sugar plums dancing in their heads among so many other fun things.
With competitions coming up almost immediately at the start of the new year, trying to stay focused isn’t as easy as one might think. This is even more important in synchronized skating, where a weakness in one skater can affect the overall result of the team.
I guess the key is moderation in all things – including the fun things. Skate Oakville’s Director of Synchronized Skating Jennifer O’Brien is a veteran coach with lots of experience coaching teams at every level of the sport. “There is a balance between training and having a break. I have learned through experience, that we all need some time away from the rink to re-energize with family and friends. The Christmas holidays is a perfect time for a mental rest,” said Jennifer.
For Dress Wright Synchro’s owner and chief designer Deanna Wright, moderation is something to consider when tweaking the design of a dress, but not always. “I am reminded at this party time of year how much fun it is to go all out; in fashion, in food and well, everything. The truth is though, you have to always be mindful of goals and the costume has to reflect the ultimate vision for the program,” said Deanna.
So, wherever you are, take some time to enjoy all that the season has to offer. Then take a little more time to remember that you didn’t work hard all fall to not be ready to go hard in competition in 2019.
Jennifer weighs in: “As a coach, I am an advocate for taking time away from training both for athletes and coaches alike. Active rest, a consistent sleep schedule and healthy and balance eating is perfect way to take advantage of not training at the rink but still keeping your body efficient and ready to hit the ice in January!”
Whatever your vision for the holiday season and beyond, the Dress Wright team wishes you and yours the very best!
