Ask The
Expert Have a make-up question? You
can email Linda Bradley of "Artistic Impressions Makeup" directly at
linda@dresswright.com to get the
answer. You can also check out back issues of our newsletter for other tips!
Linda's "Artistic Impressions" tip of the month: "The trend this
year for fall is focused on
the eyes. Dark eyes are going to be in, and for skaters,
this is good news. Don't be afraid of over doing it on the ice. Use strong
eyeshadow to compliment your costume, followed by eyeliner. To finish off the
look, curl eyelashes and top it off with several coats of
mascara."
Personal
Appearance Linda will be in the
store for personal make-up colour consultations on: --Thursday August 9
from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00p.m. Call or email to reserve your personal time
slot and don't forget to bring your costume with you!

New solo - New Dress You and your coach have selected fabulous music, the
choreography is done and you are thrilled with the results. You have gone over
different possibilities for costuming and are on your way to Dress Wright On
Ice to look at your different options. There are some basic principles that you
need to keep in mind in making your selection.
Type of music
Judges are left scratching
their heads when they hear "Firebird" and see a girl in a lime green dress, or
"Rhapsody in Blue", as Ilia Kulik did, in an outfit that looked like a giraffe
suit! - classical music suggests a more traditional style - modern techno
allows more bold colouring, strong lines, less flowing chiffon! - ethnic or
themed music requires attention to authenticity without being a "costume"
Most Flattering Style
Consider your body type and what lines are most flattering and
comfortable to wear. There's no point in wearing a dress that you may like on
the rack or on the web site, but you feel is too revealing to the point of
performing in a self-conscious manner. - your dress should be comfortable - accent your assets (and you have plenty!) When you know
you look fabulous, you just go out there and have a wonderful time strutting
your stuff!
Finishing
Touches Once you have chosen your dress, don't forget the extra pair
of tights in case you get a snag or run on test/competition day. And why not
consider a matching pair of gloves and warm up sweater to complete the
outfit.
