Whether you’re buying new or used skates, the proper fit is imperative. Your skates are your only piece of equipment so the fit, comfort and support are essential to your skating enjoyment. Tips
How to Fit Skates
How
they should feel
-
skates should fit snugly around the ankle and heel with some
room to wiggle your toes -
there should be no looseness or creases in the boot -
the tongue should be well padded and wide enough to cover the
front of the ankle and stay in place -
walk around in the skates off the ice; they should feel
comfortable |
Introducing
PJ Kwong is an announcer for live figure skating events in Canada and beyond, including 2 World Championships and one Olympic Games and lots of National, International and Professional figure skating competitions; a coach with a particular love of ice dancing, for almost 20 years; and most important to me – a wonderful friend. PJ has met many people in all walks of skating throughout her vast career. We’re really excited that she will share some of these experiences with us through a new feature column “Edgework”. August:
