April 2003  Edition

And the Beat Goes On...

Everyone knows the power music has to create images in our imaginations.  We hear a song or piece of music and it immediately reminds us of an event, performance, emotion or experience in our past.   If I gave you a list, which included “Bolero”, “River Dance”, “Casablanca”, “Love Story” – what skaters and skating images would leap to mind?

Music marketers have built on the important combination of what the eye sees and what the ear hears, to create both visual and musical excitement in music videos.  Similarly, skaters have a unique opportunity to use their performances not only to showcase their ability but also to transport audiences and judges to an imaginary world of the skater’s creation.

It all starts with the right piece of music.  And just as you need the right choreographer, and the perfect dressmaker, you need a first rate music technician to create the soundtrack for your performance.

Two such professionals that I have found are: Kevin Gorman of K.G. Productions (519-668-3845, www.kgprod.com), a complete source of professional music production, engineering, mixing and mastering, and, the husband and wife team of Lawrence and Julie Gryniewski, of Gryniewski Music Services (905-625-7592, lj_gryniewski@yahoo.com).  Lawrence is a former Senior National Competitor, engineer and long time Ice Dance coach, and Julie, also a former competitive skater, is a choreographer and skating coach.

Inspired by the dance industry – Capezio have brought out some fun fleece skating shorts and tank tops!

And check out the Intera fabrics used in the newest pants and mock neck turtlenecks!  This fabric has great wicking properties, so you stay dry and comfortable throughout those long spring and summer training sessions.
