Favourite skating moments, and we all have one or two, are not always about the making of today’s champions…they sometimes say as much about the speaker, as they do about the skating event or skater featured in that moment…in today’s Edgework:

Artistic Impression - The essence of their story

‘The most clear moment for me, happened on my first trip to Canadians, as a Novice Pairs competitor, in 1990 in Sudbury.  My then partner (Jason Turner) and I had been at the opening draw, and, as a result were running really late to make it in time for our first practice.  We ran for the bus, and made it with moments to spare.  I flew into the dressing room, struggled into my dress and immediately went about the task of putting on my skates.  Once ready, I was at an almost run backstage, as I headed for the open door onto the practice ice.  Relieved to find myself finally closing in on my target, I took a giant leap from the open gate onto the ice, only to find myself fairly quickly on my back.  Apparently, I had forgotten to take off my blade covers.  As I lay there looking up, all I could think of was “here I am, Jamie Sale, how do you like me so far? ‘
